The Wicked Flee, When No One Pursueth, 2025.

toilet paper mache.
This bible quote was read at a friends funeral. Despite my agnostic beliefs I have come to recognize this phrase as a metaphor for the plight of addiction. As an addict, and a friend to many people with the same illness, I recognize the paranoia and obsession illustrated in this phrase. The addict is running away from the world, a victim, despite no true pursuing villains. The phrase contrastingly can be read as a reflection on the artists role in society. An outsider, constantly searching, reaching for something intangible. The strength yet vulnerability of the dried paper pulp represents the tenuous fabric of our illusions.
